| Eligibility: | Anyone with an interest in family violence, regardless of occupation, can participate in the Family Violence Coordinating Council. There are no fees or dues. The Family Violence Council consists of six committees: Child Advocacy, Helping Services, Law Enforcement, Court Systems, Faith Committee, and Community Education Committee. A Steering Committee, consisting of committee chairs and various community leaders are appointed by the Chief Judge or the Council Chair. |
| Area Served: | The Family Violence Coordinating Council covers the entire 9th Judicial Circuit, which includes Henderson, Warren, Knox, Fulton, McDonough, and Hancock Counties. |
| Services Provided: | The Family Violence Coordinating Council does not provide direct services with clients. The council organizes, plans, and sponsors conferences, workshops, and training seminars on the many aspects of family violence. The Council also publishes informational and resource materials. They develop domestic violence protocols with community service providers, including judges, law enforcement, state’s attorneys, etc. The FVCC collaborates with community agencies identifying needs, develops resources and plans for service implementation. |
| Comments: | The purpose of the Family Violence Coordinating Council is to establish a forum to share and discuss information in order to promote a coordinated response to family violence in our communities. The Council works to improve the institutional and professional response to family violence issues. The FVCC engages in education, prevention, and coordination of intervention and services for victims and perpetrators of child abuse, domestic violence, and elder abuse. A goal of the Council is to contribute to the improvement of the legal system and the administration of justice. |
